Article Processing Charges (APCs)
1. General Provisions
The scientific journal Environment & Health is an open-access scholarly journal. Published research articles are freely available to readers through the journal's official website.
To cover the costs associated with the editorial and production processes and the publication of scholarly articles, the journal charges an Article Processing Charge (APC).
Payment is required only after a manuscript has been accepted for publication following independent scientific peer review.
Manuscript submission and scientific peer review do not require any advance payment.
The amount of the APC, the availability of reduced rates, or eligibility for fee waivers does not influence initial editorial screening, reviewer selection, peer review outcomes, or the final decision regarding manuscript publication.
2. Article Processing Charges
Previously Established Rates
The article processing charge is UAH 650.
Where at least one author or co-author is a research staff member of the State Institution “Marzieiev Institute for Public Health of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”, the reduced article processing charge is UAH 325.
These rates remain applicable to manuscripts that were subject to the corresponding payment conditions on the date of their official submission.
Article Processing Charges for Issue No. 1 (122), 2027
Important Notice to Authors
Manuscripts received by the editorial office on or after 10 October 2026 will be considered for publication in Issue No. 1 (122), 2027.
The article processing charges for Issue No. 1 (122), 2027 are as follows:
- UAH 1,500 – standard article processing charge.
- UAH 750 – reduced article processing charge for articles co-authored by research staff members of the State Institution “Marzieiev Institute for Public Health of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”.
The article processing charge applicable on the date of official manuscript submission remains unchanged throughout the subsequent editorial evaluation process.
Reduced rates do not confer any advantage during peer review or editorial decision-making.
3. Services Covered by the Article Processing Charge
The APC for an accepted article covers the following editorial and publishing services:
- Scientific and language editing.
- Proofreading.
- Article layout and typesetting.
- Preparation of the final electronic version of the publication.
- Assignment and registration of a Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
- Open-access publication of the article's full text on the journal's official website.
- Preparation and submission of bibliographic metadata to Crossref and other scholarly information systems, subject to their technical capabilities.
Independent scientific peer review is conducted before manuscript acceptance and is not a paid service that guarantees a favourable review or publication.
DOI registration and the submission of bibliographic metadata do not automatically result in article indexing in Scopus, Web of Science, or other selective bibliographic and citation databases.
4. Payment Procedure
- The author submits the manuscript in accordance with the journal's Manuscript Formatting Requirements and Submission Procedures.
- The manuscript undergoes initial editorial screening and independent scientific peer review.
- Following editorial evaluation, the Editor-in-Chief or another authorized editor makes a decision to accept, request revisions to, or reject the manuscript.
- Only after the manuscript has been formally accepted for publication does the author receive payment instructions based on the rate applicable on the manuscript submission date.
- Once the required editorial and production procedures have been completed, the article is prepared for publication.
No payment is required during initial editorial screening, reviewer selection, or the evaluation of peer review reports.
The journal does not charge authors for a favourable editorial decision and does not guarantee manuscript acceptance in exchange for payment.

5. Article Processing Charge Waivers
The journal provides exemptions from article processing charges for specified categories of authors in accordance with applicable Ukrainian legislation and the journal's editorial policies.
In particular, third-cycle (doctoral/PhD) students are exempt from article processing charges if they:
- Are enrolled in a state-funded doctoral programme.
- Submit a sole-authored scholarly article.
- Provide documentation confirming their eligibility for the fee waiver.
Such manuscripts undergo the standard procedures of editorial evaluation and independent peer review under the same conditions as all other submissions.
An APC waiver does not influence editorial decisions or guarantee publication of an article.

6. Editorial Independence and Financial Transparency
The journal adheres to the principles of editorial independence, transparency of publication fees, and equal treatment of authors.
Decisions to accept or reject scholarly articles are based exclusively on their scientific quality, methodological rigor, alignment with the journal's aims and scope, and the outcomes of independent peer review.
Authors' financial circumstances, affiliation with the publishing institution, eligibility for reduced rates, or exemption from payment must not influence scientific or editorial decisions.
The publisher's administrative and financial procedures are kept separate from the independent scientific evaluation of manuscripts.
The journal's editorial policy is based on the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, developed by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, and WAME.
